Fluorobiotech Takes the African Tech Stage at VivaTech 2025 in Paris

Fluorobiotech proudly represented African innovation on the global stage as Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Ross Rayne Vermeulen delivered a pitch at VivaTech 2025, one of the world’s leading events for technology and innovation. Selected to present on the African Tech Stage, Vermeulen shared Fluorobiotech’s ambitious mission to transform Africa into a powerhouse for biotechnology and recombinant enzyme manufacturing.

Founded on a bold but essential question — “What if Africa made its own biotech tools?” — Fluorobiotech is committed to developing and manufacturing world-class recombinant enzymes locally, with a strong focus on enabling the next generation of mRNA-based technologies across the continent. The company’s work addresses a critical need for self-reliance in the production of biological raw materials, which are often imported at high cost and with long delays.

It’s an honour to represent African biotech at such a prestigious event,” said Dr Vermeulen. “Our goal has always been to build a self-sustaining, competitive biotech ecosystem here at home — one that’s capable of powering everything from vaccine manufacturing to diagnostics and advanced therapeutics. VivaTech 2025 was a powerful platform to share that vision.

Held annually in Paris, VivaTech draws thousands of global innovators, startups, investors, and decision-makers to explore the future of technology and business. This year’s African Tech Stage featured leading entrepreneurs and ecosystem builders from across the continent, highlighting the critical role Africa plays in the global innovation landscape.

Fluorobiotech’s participation was made possible through the generous support of France in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi, and through the broader African-European innovation partnership. The company extends its gratitude to the organizers, fellow delegates, and partners who contributed to a dynamic and inspiring event.

As Fluorobiotech continues to expand its reach and impact, opportunities like VivaTech help reinforce the company’s role as a leader in African-led biotech solutions, ensuring the continent is not just a beneficiary of innovation, but a driving force behind it.

🌍 The future of biotech is global — and Africa is at the table.
